Freedom from FB

After finally succumbing to the pressure to join FaceBook, and actually enjoying it for a while, I have recently come to the realization that FB really hasn't brought any substantial benefit to my life.  In fact, it has done the opposite by taking much of my free time from my family, and myself.  I haven't done any knitting or spinning, no photography, not as much reading, no new blog posts, etc.  FB really became a drain of my time and energy, it stifled my creativity, and essentially created an addict.  I made the decision last week to delete my FB account, and after a few days of withdrawal, I am finally feeling liberated!  What a relief.  It is time to get back to my life.  The life that is here - now - and is REAL.  The article that pushed me over the edge is here - http://www.minimalistathome.com/your-digital-life-is-not-your-life/.  Perhaps some of you will come to the same realization as I did.

Made it!

Wow - what a long drive.  But we made it home!  My sore butt and swollen ankles were ever so happy to get out of the van and crawl into my own bed.  The strange thing is that both kids and I are ready to go back to California.  Go figure....  It gives us something to look forward to when we are up to our eyeballs in snow here in the mountains.  There is one thing that I am disappointed in myself about - I didn't get out and do any serious picture making while I was there.  Perhaps my photographer blood got cold.  Perhaps I simply just needed to do nothing.  I suppose everything happens on it's own time and agenda.  I will try to be quiet and just listen.  The answers to all my questions will eventually make themselves known.

Getting away from home sweet home

Sometimes you just need to get away from home to really appreciate it.  I've been in Cali the past 10 or so days, and as much as I like it here and still miss living here even after 10 years of being in Utah (after all I grew up in CA), I am looking forward to going back home...  My stuff.  My schedule.  My brief and fleeting moments of solitude.  My own four walls.  How is it that home can ever so quickly close in on you, but yet you are glad to return after only a brief absence? Perhaps it is as simple as just needing to get out more.  There is one thing however that I am not looking forward to - The LONG drive home...

What to do with loneliness?

A friend reminded me the other day to embrace moments of loneliness as a time for reflection. It was the best advice I've recieved in ages. Here's another reminder...

Christine Got a Quote from Deepak Chopra
“To make the right choices in life, you have to get in touch with your soul. To do this, you need to experience solitude, which most people are afraid of, because in the silence you hear the truth and know the solutions.”

Thunder

Another distant thunder storm is rolling by.  The sounds of nature are so calming.  So grounding.  I feel an utter sense of peace from the naturalness of it all.

Rain

I love the sound and smell of rain. It's such a great cleanser for the body and soul.

Sunshine on my shoulder

With the arrival of spring comes a lifting of the spirit and a renewed vigor for life.

I had the long awaited opportunity today to take a stroll on the beach.  My senses rejoiced to the sound and smell of the ocean, the caress of the breeze occasionally mixed with mist from a crashing wave, my feet sinking into the soft sand, the simple beauty of a clear blue sky and watching my kids revel in their many explorations... But what I noticed is that there was one single ingredient which magically seemed to pull all the others together to culminate in a deep sense of bliss.

The sun... The nucleus of our universe.  Without it, all creation will perish... And yet, we move through our days secure in knowing that the sun will shine and life will go on.  Even at night we are assured of it's ever-presence as we gaze upon the moon and the sun's reflected light.  Its permanence is seldom questioned... It provides us Warmth. Security. Energy. Life. Creation...  Is it God?  No.  God is ever so much more. But I digress.

As I contemplate this day I find that  the sun offers so much more than I had ever previously imagined.  And it does so generously and without demand.  Its effects are far-reaching not just in the physical world, but also our emotional and spiritual outlook.

The warmth the sun provides offers a feeling of security and safety from which we can view the world with positivity and confidence.  Bad things don't seem so dreadful when viewed from a place of security.  Yet, when the perspective is reversed, even the best circumstances can take on a negative tone when seen from a place of insecurity...

So, what can I say?  I love the sun for sharing it's warmth and it's light, and for offering comfort, peace, and clarity.

On Friendship...

True Friends are few and far between.  A true friend isn't afraid to tell you the truth about yourself, yet will still love you even when you don't listen.  Cherish the friend that tells you what you don't want to hear.  I Thank you for caring enough to set me straight.

Change

Change is a natural and necessary part of nature, growth, and even degeneration.  And there is no denying that Change is upon us.  Both individual change and societal change.  I personally am going through a host of transitions in which I am floundering.  I felt like I needed a place to honor the good and positive things I experience as I journey through my days.  A place where I could remind myself of my many blessings.  And a place where I can nurture a positive attitude and a generous spirit.  By sharing my dreams and fantasy I choose to create a light and joyous reality for myself, and hopefully help to affect change for others in a positive manner.  Will you join me?

Universe out of control?

The last several months it seems like many people are experiencing an increase in health issues, heartache, and just plain difficulties in general. The past few weeks seem to have especially accelerated the problems people are facing. Is it the release of the Holiday pressures? Or is the Universe telling us to SLOW DOWN?

We are having our share of the unfortunate wealth here at Warm Threads. After all of us being sick with the Flu/Cold/Pneumonia since Thanksgiving, we are now faced with the sudden and unbearable news that my 4 year old son needs heart surgery for a congenital heart defect. We obviously are devastated at the news, but at the same time know it is a good thing we found the problem early. Is this a blessing? or a curse? It depends which side of the coin you look at...

All fingers point to the undeniable fact that this MUST BE DONE no matter how upset we are about it. It will be far worse for my son if it is not attended to - with the most likely and almost guaranteed outcome being an early death. I would rather face the more optimistic statistics of the surgery - both for myself and my son. He has the opportunity to lead a normal and healthy life by enduring the pain of surgery - which I think is a worthwhile trade....

So what does this all mean? What is the Universe trying to tell us?
Perhaps we all need to slow down... Perhaps we need to pay more attention to our homes and families... Maybe we need to begin listening to our hearts again, rather than following the blind and sometimes greedy preachings of our minds... Let's leave the Rat Race to the rats... Is it possible that the Universe is trying to force us into the recognition that we need to tend to ourselves - and our Environment?...

Women over 30...

I saw this on another Blog and just loved it!!!

This is for all you ladies 30 years and over.... and for those who are turning 30, and for those who are scared of moving into their 30's...AND for guys who are scared of women over 30!!!!...This was written by Andy Rooney from CBS 60 Minutes. Andy Rooney says: As I grow in age, I value women who are over 30 most of all. Here are just a few reasons why: A woman over 30 will never wake you in the middle of the night to ask, "What are you thinking?"She doesn't care what you think. If a woman over 30 doesn't want to watch the game, she doesn't sit around whining about it.She does something she wants to do. And, it's usually something more interesting.A woman over 30 knows herself well enough to be assured in who she is, what she is, what she wants and from whom. Few women past the age of 30 give a hoot what you might think about her or what she's doing.Women over 30 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you deserve it, they won't hesitate to shoot you, if they think they can get away with it.Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what it's like to be unappreciated.A woman over 30 has the self-assurance to introduce you to her women friends. A younger woman with a man will often ignore even her best friend because she doesn't trust the guy with other women. Women over 30 couldn't care less if you're attracted to her friends because she knows her friends won't betray her.Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to a woman over 30. They always know.A woman over 30 looks good wearing bright red lipstick. This is not true of younger women. Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over 30 is far sexier than her younger counterpart. Older women are forthright and honest. They'll tell you right off if you are a jerk if you are acting like one! You don't ever have to wonder where you stand with her.Yes, we praise women over 30 for a multitude of reasons.Unfortunately, it's not reciprocal. For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed hot woman of 30+, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of himself with some 22-year-old waitress.Ladies, I apologise. For all those men who say, "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free". Here's an update for you. Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage, why? Because women realise it's not worth buying an entire Pig, just to get a little sausage.Remember:"It's better to have loved and lost than to do forty pounds of laundry a week."

Me? An Addict?

Hi - I'm Christine and I'm a Web-a-Holic.

I spend countless hours each day checking emails, working on my website and occasionally this Blog, checking emails again and"surfing" the web. I have 5 pages of Yahoo groups (simple list) which I subscribe to.

I have denied the effect this is having on those I love the most. I've been blinded by the screen - not recognizing that my children and husband miss me and want to spend time with me. Wondering why in the world the kids get upset when they see me entering the computer room.

My house is in shambles. I need to read just one more email, add one more product, or see one more site - and then I'll get to it... Meanwhile the dishes are piled high, the workshop floor has disappeared, kid's toys are everywhere, weeds in the garden... Why is it that keeping house seems so ENORMOUSLY difficult these days??? Why is it so time consuming???

My mind has become as cluttered and disorganized as my home. I don't know where things are, I am forgetting things within seconds of being reminded, stress is beginning to take over and -"silly me"- I can't figure out why. Where has all my time gone?

I forgot how to relax. Put me in front of a computer, and I'm closed to the world around me, much like a happy clam in it's shell. Get me out of the house for a vacation, and it takes 3 days to finally forget about the damn computer waiting for me at home. THREE DAYS to begin to enjoy myself again. BUT, as soon as we walk in the door --- you guessed it -- computer is on with me parked like a zombie in front of it. Imagine trying to enjoy a one day outing when feeling pressured to get back home - "To take care of business".

Sleeping? What the hell is that??? Isn't 5 hours a night enough? Why the hell would I be grumpy? I went to bed early and got 6 hours.... (What are these Dark circles under my eyes?)

And what about doing the things I love most? Family time, spinning, knitting, felting, dancing.... They have all fallen by the wayside. A project which normally should take a week or so to complete, now takes months. It has become another source of stress. Why is it taking me so long to finish??? Once again, I don't have the time. Where has my creative spirit gone? Has it been sucked into this computer too? My initiative to create has been vastly diminished. What once was sheer enjoyment and relaxation has become burdensome and unenjoyable...

My life has turned to complete CHAOS! (Completely Helpless Against Online Surfing)

BUT NO MORE!!!!!!!!!

My computer time is now going to be greatly limited. I MUST GET BACK TO MY PRIORITIES!!! My priorities are FAMILY, HOME, and HEALTH.

I will play with the kids FIRST
I will clean the house
I will get enough sleep
I will RELAX once again!!!

For those of you who can relate to this - Please - do yourself a favor, turn off the computer NOW! If you have read this far you might be an addict too....

THANK YOU to the Blessed Soul who suggested I visit the FlyLady.net website. I was trying to figure out why my home was so cluttered... But after implimenting just a few of FlyLady's suggestions - and some SERIOUS Soul Searching on my part - I have come to realize my real problem... It's ME - and my choice to spend this much time on this damn computer...

Recovery begins with just one step at a time.

I finally did it!

I've had so much fun visiting other people's Blogs, that I've decided to join you! It's much easier than I thought it would be. Whew!

So to tell you about myself, I'm a WAHM with my DH and two children age 2 and 4. Ever since teaching myself to knit in High School, I have loved working with all sorts of fibers. I learned to spin I think in 1991, but didn't do much with it until the past several years. My latest craze is needle felting. I absolutely love it! It really isn't difficult at all, and its so affordable to get started! I'm a huge fan! In fact, I'm starting to think about giving lessons.

THANKS for visiting my Blog! and I look forward to sharing more with you!
